SICK AS A DOG!!

It's 5:48 pm. I am sick as a dog and not happy about it. Had a meeting with a lovely interior designer from Lianos interiors at noon. Felt dreadful but decided to suck it up and go. Their showroom is stunning . It is at the corner of Main and water in Newmarket, Sandra is gorgeous and a really fun person . She has exquisite taste. We worked together last year on a house tour . She was given a ginormous chateau style manse to decorate for the Christmas house tour. We brought over truck loads of antiques. The end result was stunning . Worth all the work. Any whoo ! Getting back to todays meeting . It went well and we discussed a future project together. She brought this elegant photo album to show me of a celebration of the renewal of her and her husband's vowes,The album was in the form of a stunning coffee table book. As I was looking through the beautiful book. I had a sneeze that would blow over a buffalo ,Right onto the the pages of her photo album, That could only happen to me....... Sandra , Thank you for being so understanding!I think I managed to wipe up my nose vapour quick enough as not to ruin her book. The moral of my story is . If you are feeling really sick. Just stay home ,tuck yourself into bed with a big mug of hot lemon water and watch some trash t.v! Have a great day! Janet

DECORATING FOR THE HOLIDAY SEASON

The holiday season is soon approaching. When decorating your house don't be to quick to run out to the nearest Micheals to buy "made in China decorations." You will be suprised how many items around your house and yard can be used to decorate. Using found items will make your decorating more fun and create a very individualized look. First check out your back yard for vines, sticks and greenery .Also any plants like Sedum or spent sunflowers ,hydreanga can be dried and made into a holiday arrangement or a wreath. Re-use found items inside the house as well. We hung an antique sleigh on our wall in our mud room and use it for coats and scarves. It makes for quite the conversation piece. If you have old tin buckets you can also tack them on the wall and your children can place their mitts and scarves in them .Personalize them by painting their names or initials on the outside of the buckets. We always have fun items in the barn that you can re-use in a creative way. You are welcome to stop by and look around. Just give us a call first.905-836-1520 or 905-251-5657 ...........Also your children can decorate the buckets themselves for christmas with broken jewellery pieces, cut out paper, vines, small stuffed animals, small dinky toys. Just send them on a scavenger hunt , let them use their imgination and the different ideas they have will be wonderful. I 'll talk about other interesing decorative ideas in my next blog. Have included a pic of the sunrise this morning..........Have a great day!

A lazy Sunday Afternoon

Today was a beautiful fall day, We all slept in after a late night. We had a wonderful seafood dinner at home Saturday evening and sat by the fireplace watching hockey night in Canada.Doesn't get more Canadian than that! Today I refinished a chevel mirror for a clothing store in Aurora. The mirror isn't old. It was from the 1980's Pickled pine . Remember in the 80's everything was pickled pine, Now it has a lovely almost metallic dark finish to it. I hope the store owner will like it. nighty night!

Off to the auction

Today , I am treating myself and heading to Rob Sage auction with my friend Robin.A little Birthday rondevouz......... I am interested to see what prices he will realize for furniture, The market for antiques is very low ...prices at there all time lowest partly due to the economy and also due to what I call "THE IKEA GENERATION. "People who furnish their home with Ikea furniture,,,,,,,, Cheerful and cheap! Actually not that cheap considering in the end how much it will cost a couple after they try to assemble a cabinet together . The mear frustration of it all will cause many to have a melt down, divorce and the cost in legal bills wil be exorbadent. I think Ikea should offer free legal advice and counseling with every purchase for their," assemble at home products." What do you think?

A little bit about the owner of North 44 Antiques

Hello, My name is Janet Perini , I am new at blogging .But hope to have great fun sharing my adventures of treasure hunting............I have been collecting antiques and Unusual collectibles for decades .I have a passion for beautiful old things that are well made .I particularly love one of a kind primitives that a farmer or settler may have made during the long days of winter ,decades ago. I collect as a hobby and also sell so that I can afford to go out a do more treasure hunting. I have acquired quite a bit of knowledge over the years from many hours of researching newly found treasures. There is always so much to learn and usually an interesting story that goes with old collectables and furniture. I also have a passion for vintage and antique jewellery and art work .I hope to post new treasures that I have found and share with you some of the great adventures and interesting people I have met whilel travelling the back roads looking for treasures. Have a great day! Janet
